OUR HERITAGE
For nearly four decades, Bethsaida Hermitage has stood along the serene coastline of Kerala as a sanctuary where Ayurveda, healing and hospitality exist in harmony with nature. Every pathway, every traditional roof tile, every tree and every handcrafted cottage tells the story of preserving the land rather than transforming it. What began as a vision of Dr. Frederick Thomas has grown into one of Kerala's most authentic Ayurvedic healing destinations.
Bethsaida Hermitage began with a simple but extraordinary vision—to create a place where healing could coexist with nature without disturbing its balance.
When Dr. Frederick Thomas acquired this stretch of Kerala's coastline, the land was covered with mature coconut groves, native vegetation and untouched natural beauty. Instead of clearing the land for large-scale construction, every effort was made to preserve the landscape exactly as it existed.
Traditional craftsmen from nearby villages built cottages using locally sourced laterite stone, timber and clay tiles, ensuring that the architecture blended naturally into the surrounding environment.
Today, guests continue to experience the same atmosphere of peace, simplicity and authenticity that inspired the founding of Bethsaida Hermitage nearly four decades ago.
